Marching Orders

I've had an email telling me to expect to travel to Denmark on January 3rd. I've been assigned to the Ensco 71 jackup, drilling an oil well for Maersk. It's quite apt because the first rig I ever worked on (back in '96) was the Ensco 80.

I've been informed that it's a bit old but a recent refit saw 2-man rooms, with ensuite toilets/showers, installed in the accomodation deck. The food is supposed to be quite good too, but as it is drilling for a Danish company I'm half expecting loads of smoked fish. There's at least one Internet connection in the rec room, and I might even have web access in the unit.

I had an idea to use a blog to keep in touch with friends and family while I was out on the rigs (assuming I have Internet access).

So, if you want to find out where I am and what I'm doing just check back here from time to time. I'll try and include photos but it might be difficult because many rigs don't allow the use of cameras.

That's it for now. As inaugral posts go it doesn't rate very high, but there you go.
